louis vuitton men spring/summer 2009 collection

Marc Jacobs and studio director for menswear Paul Helbers presented the Louis Vuitton Men Spring/Summer 2009 Collection Thursday afternoon in Paris.

I like those big, boxy bags that pull a “Neverfull” dual-look effect by either extending the zip outward or tucking it in inward. Either in navy blue or in gun, please. I also like those carry bags, in the same color options. White’s just too difficult to maintain.

Here’s a clip from the runway show.

gucci men spring/summer 2009 collection

Frida Giannini unveiled in Milan Monday Gucci’s Men Spring/Summer 2009 collection, characterized with a refreshing palette of pastels, stripes of shocking colors and bursts of Hawaiian flora. We have lots of great duffels and totes here, guys!

And here’s a video from the runway. Note Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Starting Something in the background. I wonder if it was used in the show. Anyone?

plastic fantastic

It’s so back-to-the-80s.

I was at a Tupperware Party a week ago, where our hostess served waffles, assortments of cheese, fruits and nuts. There was a presentation and demonstration of Tupperware products. I haven’t seen and touched any Tupperware product in a long time, and that moment reminded me my mom’s own collection and how Tupperware had been a part of my life back when I was young in the Philippines.

We would make and refrigerate fruit salad around Christmastime with a Tupperware bowl. We would top our spaghetti with cheese freshly grated with a Tupperware grater. We would store kitchen knick knacks with Tupperware containers in all sorts of shapes and sizes. We would drink from Tupperware glasses during picnics and family outings. My mom would pack school lunches with Tupperware, too. Ah, I remember one unlucky Tupperware meltdown. Literally. We put a non microwave-safe container in the microwave and it melted right before our eyes. Those were the days.

Suddenly, Tupperware is back in my life. And they’re greater, smarter, and more colorful than ever! I ordered these at the party and got home delivery. From top to bottom: Happy Chopper – a fantastic ergonomic solution for chopping onions, herbs, garlic, ham and nuts. It’s so easy to use, just twist the bowl and the cover back and forth with both hands and voila! No tears. No smelling fingers. Only chopped bits of whatever. CrystalPlus Lunch Box – a reheatable food container which can be used straight from the freezer to the microwave oven. Mini-Max – an accordion-type container which can be flattened for storage and expanded according to capacity need. And a silicone baking mat that keeps the oven clean (hate it when pizza cheese drips and gets burned at the bottom), whlie providing a non-stick baking/heating surface for food.

Love ’em!

vg lista topp 20 is 50

VG Lista Topp 20, the official Norwegian hit list that chronicles chart success of local and foreign singles week after week, turns 50 this year. It is also a yearly musical extravaganza staged in Oslo and other key Norwegian cities. Once again, VG Lista Topp 20 is staged at Rådhusplassen in front of the capital’s iconic city hall and has brought strong musical names on stage such as international artists Fat Joe, Katie Melua and Morten Harket of a-ha, probably Norway’s biggest musical import. Last year, Mel C and Natasha Bedingfield graced the scene.

We were at the venue an hour before the concert started at 9 and all the way until 12 midnight. The event was estimated to have gathered a staggering 60,000-member audience, most of which were teenagers. I have never seen so many young people gathered at one place at one time. At times even I felt so old. Norwegian performers included among others Maria Haukaas Storeng and Mira Craig of recent Eurovision fame, world idol and country star Kurt Nilsen, brilliant singer-songwriter Espen Lind and a slew of rap, hip-hop, and rock artists. Two performers surprisingly piqued my interest – Kaizers Orchestra, an alternative rock group formed at the turn of millenium and apparently one of Norway’s best live bands, and indie pop/rock singer-songwriter Ida Maria. Hear them for yourself.

Here are some photos taken from the event.

patrick louis vuitton hosts special order event in oslo

OSLO, Norway – Louis Vuitton afficionados welcomed Mr. Patrick Louis Vuitton, 5th-generation member of the family and great grandson of company founder Louis Vuitton, and specially flown-in custom-made creations in an illustrious by-invitation-only Special Order event held Wednesday night at the only Louis Vuitton store in Norway. This was reportedly Mr. Vuitton’s first LV visit in Scandinavia.

Anette Stai, early supermodel, brand ambassador and marketing chief of Louis Vuitton Norway, greeted the well-heeled guests. Flutes of Moët & Chandon were served while everyone admired the stunning display of Special Order creations flown in for the event from France.

In exhibition were a beauty case in leather from 1927, a violin case in natural cowhide leather from 1895, and a picnic trunk in monogram canvas from 1926, all encased in vitrines. Guests were also treated to a demonstration of Louis Vuitton’s eminent craftsmanship by artisans from France.

Patrick Louis Vuitton was on hand to mingle with guests and to a few, lucky people autograph their LV items. Biancaboo got her “Birth of Modern Luxury” and “Icons” books signed, and to everyone’s surprise, Vuitton took Biancaboo’s daughter’s  silver Miroir cosmetic pouch and penned his signature inside. Pattythelegend got her “The Art of the Automobile” book signed as well.

Spotted on store display were the recently launched Monogramouflage Lys and the Vernis Alma in Amarante and Pomme D’Amour, which Biancaboo joyously took home with her. Spotted among guests were several Lockits, a Motard After Dark, a Mahina in black, a Watercolor Speedy Frame, a Sac Rayures GM, and a Richard Prince Graduate among others.

Glasses clinked throughout the party as palates were teased with an array of exquisite canapes, and later that night dessert platters and coffee.

Patrick Louis Vuitton is the third of the fashion luminaries I’ve met so far. I have interviewed Mr. Yves Piaget of the Swiss-based jeweller and watch manufacturer Piaget and Mr. Roberto Coin of the namesake Italian fine jewelry brand.

Thanks to Pattythelegend and biancaboo for taking me to my first Louis Vuitton party! Love ya both! :)
