extra challenge

It’s not in black-and-white yet, but I have accepted the job offer I received last week. With a heftier salary-benefits package, how could I resist? But of course, I am now psyching myself of the great load that will surely be stacked on my plate in the coming months. I guess the adage “to whom much is given, much is expected in return” applies true. Ugh! I wish I could just win in a lottery and spend the rest of my life travelling, shopping, and enjoying this materialistic world’s bounty. Haha! But I guess I could only dream of that; I don’t even place my bets for the lottery. Oh well…

This early, I have already gone to a meeting with a consignor manager this morning and I will join the 2006 marketing planning of one of the fashion divisions tomorrow morning. These, in addition to the PR work I am currently doing for two fine jewellery brands, is just ugh! And remind me… nothing’s on paper yet! Oh well, I guess I’m headed in that direction anyway, so might as well get my baptism of fire as soon as.

Now I just need to find my replacement, and I was eyeing this cute hot freelancer journalist I met a couple of times before, who I heard from a colleague was looking for a full-time job. And did I mention his breath smells oh-so-sweet and fresh? Yeah, that’s one of the vivid recollections I have of him. Haha! Darn I’m gonna miss PR!

oh christmas tree

Three weeks after buying a new tree for Christmas, I finally managed to put it up amidst the house renovation going on and the clutter of stuff being moved around. It’s a tiring process, but at the end of the day, when the lights go a-twinkling and the tree casts a warm glow around the living room, a light feeling sets in and heralds that indeed, Christmas has come into our home.

Advanced merry Christmas, everyone!

are you ready to jump?

Okay, this is not going to be another Madonna-fixated entry. ^_^

Two days ago, I was offered a promotion from a PR specialist to an events/promos manager, since the current EPM has just resigned leaving her spot empty. Our division manager, even our vice president, has singled me out as a possible replacement for the resignee. I am flattered, yes, since our DM would not offer the managerial post to anyone but me, and should I decline, she would just have to raise the rank of one other colleague to senior supervisory level and take charge of the events/promos department.

I am deeply contemplating on this next move. I am petrified of the tasks ahead; given that I spent my first three months at this company doing events and found it to be toxic and too detail-oriented for me. I surrendered back then saying that I am really not cut out for events. I’ve always done PR I said. And so I moved to the PR department and have been very successful and comfortable at it. But as some of my colleagues said, it’s time that I leave my comfort zone and take on new challenges. Not to mention the fact that this, of course, will afford me with a higher salary, freedom from the 9-5 (in my case, 9-7) work hours, and an opportunity to further my portfolio and become a well-rounded professional.

Although my DM and I haven’t talked about the salary and benefits package, I am tempted to take this jump and risk limbs and sanity. But then again, I have this pending visa application for abroad and I would hear word between December 5 and the next three months. Will it be fair if I take this job offer and leave after some months should I be granted a visa? Or will it be safe to take this job offer that would keep me on a higher-paying job should I be declined of a visa? Aaaarrgh!!!

There’s only so much you can learn in one place.
The more that you wait
The more time that you waste.

lost is found

Eh?

Oh, I know I am oh so late when it comes to this. I haven’t seen the hit TV series LOST until tonight. Would you believe it? I couldn’t, either. Feh! Actually, when its trailer hit Manila’s boobtube before it premiered, I was planning to watch it from Ep 1. But what happened was, some force of nature which I don’t remember at all made me skip seeing the premiere and then it was history for me. I don’t like to start watching a series from Ep 2, Ep 3, or Ep 4. I want to see it all unfold from the get-go. So time went by and the show won awards and I’ve seen and heard people rave about it; but I guess it was a lost case for me. Until now.

I got to borrow the boxed DVD set (pirated, of course) from a friend and I popped in Disc 1 tonight (Ep 1 thru 3) and boy I know I am hooked! I think it’s a different kind of series, a breath of fresh air from the belching of our locally-made telenovelas and telefantasias (with characters of fantasy archetypes) and chic, sassy, lipstick-gloss imports such as SATC and Desperate H. Lost is very much like Six Feet Under, I think. You know something (not bad, neither evil; just something) is lurking beneath the surface. Well, it’s too early to tell actually. But just the same, I know Lost will be one helluva series and I just can’t wait to pop in the player the next disc and the next and the next. And oh, it kinda shook my care and gave me advanced paranoia about hopping on that next plane ride. No no no!

Hope I don’t do another Queer As Folk Season 3 marathon I had some epochs ago, where I started watching the series early into the night and ran it through to the next morning. Well, I was just darn excited about the blooming – and well, failed – romance between Justin and that hot violinist Ethan.

hello hello

Got nothing to blog about. Same old same old. So let me just give a big shout-out and a warm hello to my visitors over the last three days. And they are from:

Malaysia, Japan, United Kingdom, Russia, the US, Hong Kong, Spain, Norway, Australia, and the Philippines!

This trip wouldn’t be as fun, sweet and worth the ride without all of you. Keep visiting!

the world is my oyster

I put in some little blurb at the topmost part of my menu. I wanted to put in some more but I just settled with my current state of mind.

The idea of braving the skies and venturing into one big adventure knocks me crazy, sleepless or daydreaming. I’ve only been to a few countries, yes, but they’ve all been good and memorable and cut too short that I thus thirst for more. In my sparetime, I just go to Yahoo Travel or Travelocity and look up at countries, airfares, hotel deals, and city guides for that next dream trip.

Also, I am currently in a state of waiting about my next big adventure in life. The very thing that started this whole blogging. It’s knocked me anxious and anticipating for a few months now, and some word/facts will be known by December 5th. Tick tock.

More on the subject of traveling, the closest I get to hopping from one city to the next is by reading travel magazines. Locally, I love Stopover Magazine. Its latest issue rang the same sentiment and hunger I have for traveling – “Appetite for Adventure” – and took me to the Galapagos Islands, Mumbai, Mount Bromo in Indonesia, Pennsylvania, and Anilao in the Philippines across pages and pages of well-written texts and truly delicious photos.

Still insatiable, I went for the biggest magazine in traveling and finally got a gift-to-self-slash-subscription to Conde Nast Traveler yesterday. My first copy should be arriving in 6 to 8 weeks, between Christmas and my 24th birthday.

I can’t wait! Now that’s travel overload.
