snapshots from algarve, portugal

It has been a month since Knut and I were at the Algarve Coast in Southern Portugal, but it seemed like longer than that. It is so different in Oslo nowadays, what with the chilly temperatures and sporadic rain that comes with the fall season. Long gone are the days when we were feeling the warm Atlantic breeze and brushing fine beach sand off our feet.

Armacao de Pera gave us a relaxing holiday, and we were thankful to have chosen the Pestana Viking Golf & Beach Resort, located at the quieter end of Armacao de Pera. We were away from the bustling crowd and the rows of seemingly rowdy restaurants and bars found in Albuefeira. We had direct access to a beach nestled between cliffs, and we stumbled upon an intimate cove that provided an even quieter respite. During daytime, we’d find ourselves meandering down narrow, charming lanes and walking past whitewashed Moorish architecture typical of the region. At night, we’d explore restaurants for local and international fares, as well as sample the famed Vinho Verde and Port wine.

The Algarve Region, with its characteristic coastline of dramatic limestone cliffs and beaches, was a picture-perfect subject for photography. Thus, easily filling up my memory card and taking me a long time to select which ones would go into my entry. Finally, here they are and I hope you will enjoy these snapshots of Portugal.

Thanks for looking. Until next summer!

in transit: algarve, portugal

I’ll be off the radar in the next seven days as Knut and I are flying today to Faro, Portugal. We will then be picked up and whisked away to the beatiful Pestana Viking Hotel in Praia da Senhora da Rocha, a small fishing community and beach on the Atlantic Coast.

It will be both our first time in Portugal, a destination we’ve always dreamed of travelling to. Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal, a popular destination primarily because of its beaches, Mediterranean climate, and relatively low costs. It’s probably one of the most southern places in Europe we could go to as continental Africa is just an ocean away.

Have a great week guys!
